Gone too soon. I was saddened to hear about Mike’s passing. I’d known Mike since he started at Imperial, many years ago. Mike will be greatly missed by me and so many others. He was the apprentice tutor in the RSM workshop for over ten years. Personally, being involved with the technician apprentice scheme, I know first-hand that all the apprentices learned a lot from Mike and enjoyed the 6 months they spent with him. I always recall a quote popular amongst the apprentices; “Mike taught us to love ‘The Clock’, (The DTI Instrument used for accuracy in engineering) Mike was a friend to many at work and always willing to support his colleagues. I didn’t see Mike very often on campus, but when we would meet– we would ‘chat and reason’- experiencing a strong sense of brotherhood as we shared together. Mike recently came to see me in the Physics Department and we talked about many things. He was telling me about his twin granddaughters, and how well they were doing at school, and anticipating their exam results in August. He was so proud of them. The last time I saw Mike was at a lunch we held for him on the Friday 7th July to thank him for the sterling contribution he had made to the lives of the technician apprentices. May Mike rest in peace, and perpetual light shine upon him, forever. My deepest condolences.
